Brief Description

This is an exciting new post created to provide cover for the inpatient mental health units and provide mental health support to people living with diabetes across North East Essex. We currently have other posts advertised so hours can potentially be made up to full time if candidate is suitable for other posts, job share will also be considered at request.

Do you have experience in working as a specialist diabetes nurse or dietitian with an interest in mental health or experience as a mental health nurse with an interest working in diabetes? Are you looking for a challenging, fulfilling post with the chance to develop new pathways, training sessions whilst managing a clinical caseload?  

We are looking for a passionate, innovative person for this exciting post which involves working across both primary and secondary care, utilising expert skills in diabetes and mental health, ultimately leading to improvements in the patient care pathway for those crossing between the diabetes and mental health services. 

North East Essex Diabetes Service (NEEDS) is an award winning, progressive service, consisting of a team of 3 diabetes consultants / endocrinologists, 18 Specialist diabetes practitioners with varying backgrounds in nursing, dietetics, mental health, podiatry and health coaching and an excellent admin team to support. We provide specialist diabetes care to the 21,000 people living with diabetes across North East Essex, in the form of specialist diabetes clinics to the most complex cases, young persons, pre pregnancy, antenatal, insulin pump and MDT foot clinics, numerous diabetes structured education courses and a strong emphasis on up skilling and supporting primary care via education sessions, mentorship and in practice support. We pride ourselves on our close collaborative working with multiple local community services, lifestyle services, health in mind, pharmacy and the CCG. We are an enthusiastic, friendly team and strive to provide a patient centred, safe, effective and high quality service. Regular CPD is scheduled for the team and on an individual basis to support ongoing evidenced based practice and encourage audit and research within the service. 

This post would ideally suit an enthusiastic team player who is able to work as an autonomous practitioner and enjoys a varied workload. You should also be able to demonstrate effective teaching and presentation skills, as well as excellent organisation and communication skills. An understanding of the national diabetes plan, and training and development initiatives in diabetes would be desirable. Additional training required for the post will be provided for the right candidate.
