Job title

We are looking for a team of Sexual Assault Advocates to join a new pilot in Suffolk

What is the role?

  • As a Sexual Assault Advocate you will support individuals who have experienced sexual assault at any time in their lives. Support is also available to those affected by another’s assault, such as parents, siblings and partners.
  • You will do this by advising them on their choices and options for progression in their recovery. This may involve:

Supporting them if they choose to report to police, wish to disclose to a family member, or need support to attend appointments that they find difficult (including health appointments).

Utilising our in-house Recovery & Resilience programmes, wellbeing courses or providing one to one support, as well as referring or signposting to both statutory and charitable bodies that can assist the client.

  • You will be responsible for developing an individualised support plan with the client that empowers them to explore and identify what they feel may work for them.
  • This may include utilising our various in-house Recovery & Resilience programmes and wellbeing courses, as well as referring or signposting to both statutory and charitable bodies that can assist the client.

Most support is likely to be a mixture of our workshops, programmes and courses - which you will assist in facilitating and receive full training in, - or merely keeping in contact to allow the individual to know they are not alone. No two clients will require the same support.

You’ll join our new pilot provided by the Suffolk GP Federation, commissioned by NHS England, that will provide support throughout Suffolk. This is a community-based project that seeks to deliver support in the manner and locality of the service users choosing, so some travel will be expected, for which a mileage allowance is provided. It is a new concept that treats the individual holistically, looking trauma and adverse health links. It is an empowering, self-development concept based upon the Barnahus model, but extended to cover all age groups as well as all genders.….

We are a not-for-profit, community interest company and our main purpose is to support Primary Care across Suffolk, including support with working collaboratively and at scale. We also deliver a portfolio of NHS services across Suffolk and North East Essex, including Podiatry, Ultrasound, Diabetes, as well as Urgent Care Services including the Out of Hours face-to-face Service in Suffolk.

Is it for me?

We will work alongside the successful candidate to ensure they are sufficiently inducted and trained; there will be regular constructive supervision in place. It is important to us that you feel safe and supported in the role.

  • A background in supporting victims of sexual violence or a similar role is advantageous, but a compassionate, empathetic and non-judgemental persona is more important. We will provide all necessary training specific to sexual violence, a trauma-informed approach, and the programmes we deliver, to operate confidently within the role.
  • We will ensure your own wellbeing with regular caseload and clinical supervision.
  • The role is anticipated to evolve with the needs of the clients and the development of the service. A flexible, innovative attitude is essential.
  • Use of your own vehicle with business use insurance is required, for which a mileage allowance is applied.

Contract type:

This is a zero hours contract to allow for flexibility and responsiveness to the needs of the service. The commitment you are able to make to the role will be reflected in the hours offered, allowing you to participate in an exciting new concept, whilst maintaining your regular work/homelife commitments. Hours worked are paid at an equivalent of NHS band 2 (approx. £11. 47 per hour).

What we can offer you:

  • A strong ethos of flexible working, to help us maintain (or reclaim) that work/life balance.
  • Innovative teams who strive in forward thinking, with a voice that is heard.
  • A visible and supportive management team, with operational support that ‘get it’
  • Excellent IT teams & support giving us first class equipment and ‘no wait’ responses
  • A commitment to personal development, training, and leadership opportunities, with service-managed training budget
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Death in service cover
  • Competitive salaries with annual benchmarking
  • 27 days holiday (plus bank holidays) on starting, rising to 29 days (plus bank holidays) after 5 years’ service
  • Blue light card employer – Access to the discount service with thousands of discounts online and on the high street.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
