We are looking for a Payroll Officer to join our Payroll Team
You'll be joining an established in-house payroll team that supports a large and diverse workforce across a range of NHS and support services. This is a varied and rewarding role, covering complex payroll arrangements. You'll play an important role in ensuring our people are paid accurately while helping us continuously improve our payroll processes and systems.
What is the role?
As Payroll Officer, you will actively support the Payroll Manager in the end-to-end payroll processing for two entities, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.
This is a varied and rewarding role, managing a complex payroll environment that includes salaried employees, hourly paid staff, bank workers and clinicians working across a variety of rotas and services. Our workforce spans both corporate and frontline healthcare services, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys problem-solving and working with diverse pay arrangements, terms and conditions.
You will:
- Support the Payroll Manager with the end-to-end payroll processing of two entities.
- Assist with payroll month-end and year-end processes, ensuring all reconciliations, reports and backups are completed accurately.
- Help manage payroll activity for a varied workforce, including salaried, hourly paid, bank and rostered staff across multiple services.
- Respond to employee pay queries and provide guidance on tax, National Insurance, pensions and payroll-related matters.
- Produce payroll reports and maintain accurate payroll records.
- Play a key role in the implementation and ongoing development of our new in-house payroll system and contribute as part of the project team.

You'll join the Payroll Team within Suffolk GP Federation, part of the Central Team.
We are a not-for-profit Community Interest Company whose purpose is to support Primary Care across Suffolk, helping practices work collaboratively and at scale. We also deliver a range of NHS services across Suffolk and North East Essex, including Podiatry, Ultrasound, Diabetes Services and Urgent Care Services, including the Suffolk Out of Hours Service.

We are looking for someone who has:
- At least one year's experience working as a Payroll Officer or Assistant Payroll Officer within a medium-sized organisation.
- Experience working with payrolls that include multiple employee groups, varying contractual arrangements or complex pay calculations.
- A working understanding of:
- Auto-enrolment pensions
- Statutory payments (SSP, SMP, etc.)
- Holiday pay legislation and National Minimum Wage compliance
- HMRC RTI legislation and directors' payments
- Experience of HMRC requirements and payroll compliance.
- Experience producing and analysing payroll reports.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent customer service skills.
Contract Type
Permanent, Full-Time – 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
